Explosion and fire in Bloomingdale 4-1-13

The Bloomingdale Fire Protection District (FPD) responded to a reported explosion at an industrial facility in unincorporated Glendale Heights this afternoon. According to a report from *The Daily Herald*, at least two individuals were injured Monday morning following an explosion and subsequent fire at Northstar Metal Products Inc., a metal fabrication plant located on Mitchell Drive. Bloomingdale Deputy Fire Chief Jeffrey Janus confirmed that firefighters arrived at the scene just after 11:56 a.m. upon receiving the initial call. Upon arrival, they found heavy smoke coming from the rear of the building. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation, but emergency crews worked quickly to contain the fire and ensure the safety of those nearby.
