Herbicide application technology is imminent

At the 2009 China Sulfonylureas Herbicide Industry Forum 2009 that ended on December 12, Zhang Yuju, a researcher at the Henan Academy of Agricultural Sciences, pointed out that 20 years ago, China could not produce pesticides, and there was no medicine available for crop diseases. Today, although our country has been able to produce herbicides, due to improper use, more and more herbicides have been punished by “red cards” due to phytotoxicity. If this issue is not taken seriously, our herbicides will once again face no medicine available. situation.
Zhang Yuju pointed out that the promotion of application technology has become the key to the development of pesticides in China to a new level. He appealed to the relevant departments to pay more attention to the promotion of herbicide application technology. Enterprises should also increase cooperation and jointly conduct scientific research and technology promotion to extend the service life of herbicides.
Zhang Yuju believes that the application of herbicides should be properly selected according to local climatic conditions, farming practices, types of weeds and their growth, crop species, and their growth. Regional and technical strengths are strong. However, the current application of herbicides in China is serious. insufficient. Taking the ultra-efficient and safe sulfonylurea herbicide as an example, many herbicides containing metsulfuron, chlorsulfuron, and ethametsulfuron have been restricted or stopped for use due to phytotoxicity. The phytotoxicity has become an important obstacle to the application and promotion of sulfonylurea herbicides.
Pharmacological injury refers to the abnormal growth of crops or the occurrence of physiological disorders after administration. Zhang Yuju said that sulfonylurea herbicides are highly deceptive and difficult to find. Crop phytotoxicity does not last long, seriously affecting the yield and quality of crops. For example, some varieties of sulfonylurea herbicides are special herbicides for wheat fields, and their use methods and time requirements are extremely strict. Due to improper use, tens of thousands of mu of wheat seedlings have occurred every year in Henan, Hebei, and Shandong in recent years. The cotton cultivation area in Henan's cotton-cotton intercropping area continues to decline from 15 million to 18 million mu to 2 million mu this year. In addition, phytotoxicity also occurs in soybeans, corn, peanuts and other crops.
Speaking of the cause of the harm caused by drugs, Zhang Yuju pointed out that on the one hand, the level of application of herbicides by farmers was insufficient; on the other hand, some enterprises had misleading behavior in terms of usage and dosage for the purpose of sales. Zhang Yibin, deputy chief engineer of the Shanghai Institute of Pesticides, said that the backward spraying equipment is difficult to accurately spray and it is also a major cause of drug damage. “The original drug in the 21st century, the preparation technology in the 1990s, and the medication equipment in the 1980s” was his image review of the status of herbicides in China.
