Several new emergency response units are set to arrive at O’Hare Airport, with more in the planning stages. These updates reflect ongoing efforts to enhance safety and preparedness at one of the busiest airports in the country.
- A brand-new ambulance, designated as Ambulance 26, has already been deployed at Rescue 1. Additional ambulances for units #16 and #59 are expected to arrive shortly, improving response capabilities across the airport.
- The Aviation Department has entered a five-year agreement with Oshkosh to acquire up to eight Striker ARFF (Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting) units. The first unit is scheduled to arrive in August and will be a 3000-gallon 6x6 model, similar to those already in service at O’Hare. A second unit is expected before the end of 2010. Future units could be upgraded to 4500-gallon 8x8 models, depending on potential changes in FAA regulations.
- A large mobile ventilation fan is currently being ordered for use at the airport, enhancing the ability to manage hazardous environments during emergencies.
- A new mobile command post, designated as 2-7-8, is also in the design phase and is expected to improve coordination during large-scale incidents.
- A new rehab unit, labeled 5-7-3, has been stationed at Rescue 3, supporting injured personnel and ensuring quick recovery times.
- Mass Casualty Unit 8-8-1 at Rescue 1 is now operating with a newly acquired (used) Bluebird bus, providing better transportation for multiple casualties in critical situations.
- Battalion 6 has received a new 2010 Ford Expedition, enhancing mobility and communication for senior officers on-site.
- Units 2-9-9 and 2-9-11 have both been equipped with new 2010 Ford F-150 4-door pickup trucks featuring bed covers, offering improved storage and protection for equipment.

High-temperature Resistant Powder Coating
High-temperature powder coating is a type of powder coating specially designed to withstand high-temperature environments. This coating possesses characteristics that allow it to maintain stability and performance at elevated temperatures.
High-temperature powder coating possesses the following characteristics and advantages:
-
High-temperature stability: It maintains a stable coating structure and performance even at elevated temperatures, minimizing deformation, fading, or loss of gloss.
-
Excellent heat resistance: It can withstand extreme high-temperature environments, typically maintaining stability at temperatures above 1000°C, and is resistant to cracking or peeling.
-
Corrosion resistance: It exhibits good resistance to corrosion, capable of withstanding oxidation, chemical attacks, and corrosion at high temperatures.
-
Environmental friendliness: It typically does not contain organic solvents or harmful substances, aligning with environmental regulations and requirements.
-
Outstanding abrasion resistance: It demonstrates excellent resistance to wear and tear, ensuring long-term integrity and surface quality of the coating.
-
Excellent fire resistance: It exhibits outstanding resistance to fire, capable of withstanding flames, high-temperature radiation, and erosion in fire environments.
It is typically used in applications that require resistance to high temperatures, such as engine components, furnaces, BBQ grills, heaters, pipelines, heat exchangers, exhaust pipes, and more.
