Giess-Pfleger Tanning Company Fire, Waukegan – November 15, 1973

Here's a message from Brian Murphy:

These newspaper clippings, from the Waukegan News-Sun, show a major fire at the former Giess-Plfeger Tanning Company on Waukegan’s Lakefront. The fire took place on November 15, 1973, and involved a large section of the building—constructed with heavy timber and used as a mill—that was in the process of being demolished after it was sold to Commonwealth Edison. The Waukegan Generating Station is located just next to the site.

I apologize for the quality of these clippings—they’ve been sitting in a shoebox for over 40 years, so they’re not in great condition. But I thought they were worth sharing. If anyone has any memories or additional information about this fire, I’d love to hear from you.

Thanks for checking this out,

Brian Murphy

Airless Lotion Pump Tube

An airless lotion pump tube is a type of packaging for skincare and cosmetic products that utilizes a pump mechanism to dispense the product. Unlike traditional pump bottles, airless lotion pump tubes do not allow air to enter the container, which helps to prevent oxidation and contamination of the product. The tube is made of a flexible material that can be compressed, allowing the product to be dispensed without any air entering the container. This type of packaging is ideal for products that contain active ingredients that can be affected by air and light, such as antioxidants and vitamins. Airless lotion pump tubes are also popular for their convenience and portability, making them a popular choice for travel-sized skincare products.
