On April 30th, 2014, a house fire broke out at 1434 Lori-Lyn Lane in Northbrook. Larry Shapiro captured a series of powerful images and a video documenting the event. Below are some of the most striking moments from the scene.
A group of firefighters from Wheeling were seen stretching a supply line during the operation. The image highlights the teamwork and coordination required to tackle such emergencies.
As the fire intensified, flames and smoke could be seen venting through the roof of the home. Firefighters had to withdraw from the interior as conditions became too dangerous.
Another photo shows the supply line connected to a tower ladder, which was being used to reach higher areas of the burning structure. This equipment plays a critical role in controlling large fires.
Smoke and heavy flames were visible through the roof as crews prepared to deploy the tower ladder. The intensity of the fire was clear, and the response from the firefighters was swift and professional.
In the B Sector, a handline was actively working to contain the blaze, showing the ongoing efforts to protect the surrounding area.
Northbrook’s new ambulance, a Freightliner/Horton Type I model, was on standby at the scene. This vehicle is equipped with advanced features to support emergency medical services during major incidents.
Northbrook Tower 12 arrived on the scene and helped knock down the bulk of the fire. The image captures the moment after the main fire was under control.
Finally, Wheeling Engine 42 was seen supplying the tower ladder with a large-diameter hose (LDH) as the incident wound down at dusk.
