Roland Ehniss, Bosch executive vice president, said in the space of the Global Automobile Forum held in Chengdu that “Our discussions have entered the final stage.” He also said that he hopes the joint venture will start production in 2012.

In 2008, Bosch and Samsung SDI set up a hybrid vehicle battery joint venture with a 50 percent stake in both parties. It invested a minimum of 500 million U.S. dollars in 4-5 years and began production in 2010.

Bosch also established a joint venture with Shanghai Auto, China’s largest automaker, to form a joint venture with parts and components, with 51% and 49% respectively. According to the latest consultation plan, Bosch and Samsung SDI may transfer part of the production and R&D process of the battery joint venture to a new joint venture with Shanghai Automotive.

"This will bring the battery companies to China and integrate with existing Chinese partners' joint ventures." Ehniss also said, "We are discussing (the ownership structure)."
