Bosch will launch a new generation of bridges

According to foreign media reports, Bosch's latest eAxle bridge integrates the original three powertrain internal components—motors, power electronics and transmission components—into a compact unit that directly drives the axle. This design not only improves the energy efficiency of the powertrain, but also makes its price more economical.

Rolf Bulander, Bosch's board member and chairman of Mobility Solutions' business unit, said: "With this bridge, Bosch is gradually applying the principle of integration to powertrain systems because of the innovative implementation of powertrain systems. With the integration, this new powertrain system will also open up a potentially huge market for Bosch. The entire system is flexible and the bridge can be installed on numerous models in the market, such as (plug-in) hybrid and pure. Electric vehicles, including compact cars, SUVs, and even light commercial vehicles."

Dr. Bulander added: "Bosch can provide customized powertrain solutions for each car manufacturer, and customers will not need to spend time on developing new components or systems. At present, this new bridge sample has been tested by customers. Mass production is expected to begin in 2019." In the Chinese market, this innovative technology has also been recognized by customers and is expected to begin volume production in 2020. Currently, Bosch has adopted a flexible and universal manufacturing concept for this system globally. This set of manufacturing concepts ensures that each customer gets a customized solution that can be quickly integrated into the car manufacturer's production process.

Maximum torque and power up to 6,000 Nm (Newton meters) and 300 kW (kW)

The power output of the powertrain is 50-300 kW, which can drive large vehicles such as SUVs, and the bridge's torque is 1000-6000 Nm. When the hybrid vehicle and electric vehicle are equipped with this product, either the front axle drive or the rear axle drive will be implemented. The electric drive shaft has a power output of 150 kW and a weight of about 90 kg, which is much lower than the total weight of the three powertrain components.

The unique selling point of Bosch Bridge is its wide applicability and can be applied to a variety of models. Dr. Mathias Pilin, Bosch's Executive Vice President of the Electric Transport Business Unit, said: “Without a large number of specifications, only a few parameters are required. Bosch can produce customized bridges. Customers only need to determine the required performance, torque and With the installation space, Bosch can optimize the rest of the powertrain system based on the parameters provided, so that a complete customized powertrain system can be directly connected to the assembly line of the car manufacturer.”

With a minimum power of 50 kW and a maximum power of 300 kW, Bosch Bridge can meet the pure electric drive of large vehicles with a torque range of 1,000 to 6,000 Nm. If the system is mounted on hybrid and pure electric vehicles, front and rear axle drive can be achieved. A 150 kW electric shaft weighs only 90 kilograms, which is far less than the total weight of the drive system that is currently using stand-alone powertrain accessories. Compared with similar products, Bosch Bridge is distinguished by its combination of extremely high peak performance and excellent continuous performance. In other words, such an electric powertrain has better acceleration performance and a longer time at high speed. This goal was achieved thanks to Bosch's completely new design of the entire system and its modifications to the motor and power electronic units.
