In a recent report, the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Agriculture revealed that the province has been actively promoting soil testing and formula fertilization techniques, providing over 7.08 million mu of farmland with a "nutritional meal" to improve crop yield and soil health. To date, Zhejiang has established 450 demonstration bases covering 380,000 mu, which are helping farmers reduce costs and optimize resource use. It is estimated that these efforts will save farmers approximately 300 million yuan annually.
Lanxi City was the first experimental area in Zhejiang to implement soil testing and fertilization. The local agricultural department has set up more than 30 demonstration sites for soil fertigation, and technical staff regularly visit villages to provide on-site guidance. This year, the city expects to increase the area under soil testing and fertilization to 100,000 mu. Meanwhile, Hangzhou has launched a three-year action plan aimed at expanding the application of soil testing and formula fertilization across 1 million mu of land. The goal is to cut chemical fertilizer use by over 15% and reduce fertilizer loss by more than 20%.
Zhejiang is also broadening the scope of soil testing and formula fertilization, moving beyond rice paddies to include orchards, drylands, and greenhouse areas. The province has strengthened basic research and practical applications in soil testing, rational fertilization, and the development of customized fertilizers. Recently, the Zhejiang Agriculture Department held a meeting in Shaoxing County to review progress in soil testing, formula fertilization, and winter green manure production. The event emphasized improving the public service system for soil testing and fertilization, ensuring wider accessibility and long-term sustainability of these practices.
