In a recent interview in Beijing, Zhao Jingguang, the Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee at Foton Motor Company, expressed the company's ambition to become a globally recognized automotive brand over the next 5–10 years. By 2015, Foton Motors aims to achieve annual sales of more than 1.5 million vehicles, with revenue surpassing 120 billion yuan, and over 30% of its sales coming from international markets.
Foton Motor, a state-owned listed company based in Beijing, has assets totaling 11 billion yuan and has produced and sold over 3.2 million vehicles cumulatively. The company has maintained the second position in the global commercial vehicle market for three consecutive years and has been ranked number one in China’s commercial vehicle sector for five straight years.
Despite a challenging market environment for commercial vehicles in China this year, Foton Motor managed to sell 235,000 units between January and May. The company is now targeting total annual sales of 426,000 units, with an ambitious goal of reaching 475,000 units by the end of the year.
Zhao Jingguang also highlighted that during the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" period, Foton Motor aims to secure either first or second place globally, building on its domestic leadership achieved during the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan." The company is steadily advancing its passenger car development and expects to make significant breakthroughs during the 12th Five-Year Plan. Additionally, new energy vehicles have become a key part of Foton Motor’s strategy, with all future models expected to include electric or hybrid options.
According to data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, car sales reached 4.96 million units in the first five months of this year, representing a 14.3% increase compared to the same period last year. Industry analysts expect annual sales to exceed 10 million units this year, signaling continued growth in the Chinese automotive market.
