Castrol: Donating millions to help disaster relief in Hunan

Since mid-January, under the influence of strong cold air, cold, blizzard, and freezing bad weather have occurred in varying degrees in most provinces and cities in southern China. Hunan Province has also encountered a frozen disaster with the widest range, longest duration, and most serious impact in the past 50 years. The people of Hunan Province and the New Year’s hometown have been blocked due to traffic jams, water cuts and power cuts, and food shortages. All passengers trapped in Hunan have affected hundreds of millions of people across the country. After learning about the situation, the well-known multinational BP (China) and Castrol (China) donated one million yuan in cash and materials to the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation - RMB 540,000 anti-freeze of Jiabaobao and 460,000 yuan in cash. He hopes to help Hunan's medical rescue, transportation, power, and hydraulic departments to quickly and effectively perform disaster relief work.

As continuous rain, snow, and freezing weather have caused inconvenience to the local transportation and people’s lives, a large number of snow shovels are working on the roads, and a large number of vehicles dispatched by the power and hydraulic department to the scene for emergency repairs, medical transportation, and other departments also provide support and patrol. Taking into account the harsh environment and the trapped masses faced by working vehicles in inclement weather, BP and Castrol took action in a timely manner to reach out to the disaster-hit areas, hoping to provide support in specialized areas to the extent possible and improve the rescue efficiency of the rescue force. At the same time, it also provides economic support for the lives of the victims.

On the afternoon of February 2, a brief donation ceremony was held at the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation. At the ceremony, Ms. Ren Yafang, Vice President of BP (China), made a donation to China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation on behalf of Castrol. Ren Zeng said that after the severe snowstorm in Hunan, the national transportation center, from the top leaders of the company to every employee, they are very concerned about the progress and recovery of the disaster, and immediately mobilized all the anti-freeze fluids in the warehouses. A total of 36,000 liters, an additional 460,000 yuan in cash, is designed not only to provide professional vehicle anti-freeze support, but also to respond to the humanistic concerns advocated by the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation in the “you have this, this winter will not be cold” campaign.

“The important thing in front of the disaster is the action. This is also the philosophy our company has been pursuing. Any company and individual have the desire and impulse to make a contribution to the society in the face of the disaster. I hope to pass this activity with the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation. Can call for more companies to join in the disaster relief operations, so that the people live a "warm" Spring Festival." Ren finally said.

Wang Xing, the secretary-general of the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation, said after receiving the most donated goods: “This disaster has caused serious losses to Hunan, but it has also received help from all walks of life. Castrol has also demonstrated social responsibility as an internationally renowned company. After learning about the disaster situation, we immediately called us and actively donated 1 million in money and materials to help the disaster-stricken areas to carry out the rescue. I thank the disaster-stricken areas and the people for their kindness and we will send these materials as soon as possible. Distribute to the most needed vehicles, including medical, transportation, power and hydraulics."

Castrol and its parent company, BP Group, as a transnational energy company, not only use financial performance, technical performance, but also social and environmental performance as a measure of the company's own standards, and strive to become a model for corporate citizenship in the countries and regions where it is located. In the snow disaster in southern China, BP Group also took the initiative to join in the rescue operation, and actively played its role as an outstanding corporate citizen. Together with the people in the disaster-stricken areas, the BP Group united in one mind and hoped that an early victory in the fight against snowstorms would be achieved!
