Recently, the Danish DESMI Ocean Guard containerized ballast water treatment system solution has successfully passed the AP Moller - Maersk test.
Oxyclean (no foaming chlorine-containing detergent) based on ultraviolet (UV) and ozone The ballast water treatment system has been tested in fresh water, brine and seawater. Maersk Line has come to the conclusion that the system is an attractive solution, especially for container ship refurbishment.
According to Mother Rasmussen of Maersk Maritime Technology, “We have carried out containerized ballast water treatment system tests on two different types of vessels. We have found that containerized ballast water treatment systems are feasible to overcome the problem of crowded cabin space. The OxyCleanTM system offered by DESMI Ocean Guard is available as a component for skid-mounted or in a single container.
The containerized ballast water treatment system solution in a 20-foot TEU has a ballast water treatment flow rate of up to 500 m3/h and is packaged in two overlapping 40-foot containerized ballast water treatment systems. The ballast water treatment flow rate of the scheme can reach 3000 cubic meters per hour. The reason for overlapping the two containers is to accommodate the height of use required by the filter.
In November 2012, the DESMI Ocean Guard OxyCleanTM ballast water treatment system has been certified by Lloyd's Register of Shipping. In January 2013, the Norwegian Classification Society conducted a safety assessment of the system, and the American Bureau of Shipping has issued a design evaluation certificate.
