Chongqing Geophysical Company's Chongqing Manager's Machine Repair Group, a team of over 20 employees, has been at the forefront of full-service exploration and production. In recent years, the group has earned multiple national, provincial, and ministerial-level awards for its innovative contributions to the industry. As of late October, two groundbreaking inventions have emerged: a portable drilling rig and an advanced dust cover for the mountain multi-purpose rig.
According to Hu Yong, the head of development for the SCGC–type 1 portable drilling rig, this compact device weighs just 120 kilograms and can be disassembled into four parts, making it easy for two people to carry. It has proven especially useful in the Sichuan-Yunnan earthquake exploration project, where it was deployed in mudstone areas. Operators on the ground have shown strong interest in using this portable rig to drill wells efficiently. Currently, the mechanics team is working around the clock to prepare a batch of these rigs for delivery in early November, in anticipation of upcoming exploration projects.
The construction unit highlights that the rig’s small size—about one-third the weight of a conventional rig—makes it ideal for use in challenging environments like mudstone regions. It can also be used for well washing in other areas, offering greater versatility. Some industry experts have praised the successful development of this portable drilling rig as a major breakthrough, calling it a revolution in seismic drilling technology. They emphasize its positive impact on improving efficiency and promoting sustainable exploration and production practices.
Another innovation from the Chongqing Manager’s Machine Repair Team is the mountain multi-purpose rig dust cover. This invention has significantly reduced the amount of dust generated during drilling operations in limestone areas, which have traditionally been difficult to work in due to high dust levels. The new dust cover not only improves working conditions but also meets environmental protection and occupational health standards, marking another step forward in the company’s commitment to safer and greener exploration methods.
