South Korea plans to invest 40 trillion won to develop renewable energy

On the 13th, the Korean government proposed the “New Energy and Renewable Energy Industry Development Strategy Report” containing the above-mentioned content at the 9th Green Growth Committee meeting under the chairmanship of President Lee Myung-bak.
According to Korea’s “Korean Daily” report, the South Korean government decided to join hands with private companies to invest 40 trillion won in 2015 to develop a new renewable energy industry, and to develop solar energy and wind energy respectively into “second” semiconductor and shipbuilding industries.
In the solar and wind energy markets in the future industry, South Korea has been dominated by developed countries even by China. The strategy introduced this time aims to catch up quickly by focusing on investment.
According to this development strategy, the Korean government and private companies will invest 7 trillion won and 33 trillion won respectively over the next five years to develop renewable energy as the main export industry of “semiconductor” and “shipbuilding”. Specifically, it plans to invest 1.5 trillion won in the development of the 10 core original technologies such as a new generation of thin-film solar cells, and invest 1 trillion won in the localization of wind energy accessories, raw materials, and equipment. It plans to cultivate 50 transnational "star enterprises" with annual export volume of more than 100 million U.S. dollars in the field of new renewable energy, and expand the scale of exports to 36.2 billion U.S. dollars.
In addition, the Korean government also plans to first set up new renewable energy equipment in schools, harbors, factories, and post offices to create a domestic market. It also decided to implement the new renewable energy obligation supply system from 2012 to increase the world market share of Korea's new renewable energy industry from the current 4 to 14% to more than 15%.
Lee Myung-bak said: "South Korea has been rated as the world leader in terms of green growth, but in fact, we are not yet in the level of technology or daily life in Europe and other developed countries. I hope the government will come up with some more in-depth and more effective measures. ."
