Daimler, the world's leading truck manufacturer, is now focusing its attention on the fast-growing markets of the Far East, particularly in China, India, and Russia—regions with strong economic momentum and vast potential for commercial vehicle sales. At an event in Detroit, Andreas Renschler, head of Daimler’s heavy-duty truck division, highlighted that these countries are experiencing rapid development and that Germany, as a global leader in automotive innovation, must remain actively involved.
Renschler expressed confidence in the Chinese commercial vehicle market and is eagerly awaiting official confirmation from the Chinese government regarding a potential joint venture with Beiqi Foton. In India, where the truck market is showing promising growth, Daimler has already identified a local partner and aims to expand its presence by increasing sales of commercial vehicles. Meanwhile, in Russia, Daimler is working toward establishing its own assembly plant, with the application expected to be approved by the end of this year or early next year.
In contrast, the U.S. commercial vehicle market presents a different scenario. Daimler faces significant challenges there, with its U.S. subsidiary, Freightliner, still operating at a loss this year. Renschler noted that the situation in the U.S. is unlikely to change significantly until early next year.
This week, Daimler also held a groundbreaking ceremony for its project in Fujian, signaling further expansion in the region. The company is set to announce the formation of a commercial vehicle joint venture in India soon, reinforcing its long-term strategy to grow in emerging markets.
