Deck fire in Prospect Heights, 8-9-18

Units were dispatched to a reported structure fire at the listed location. Upon arrival, they were informed by dispatch that the fire had already been extinguished and was located on the rear deck. A subsequent investigation revealed that a smoldering fire from a planter box had fallen onto the rear balcony deck, sparking a small fire. Firefighters removed a section of the deck board along with some trim, checked for any signs of fire spreading, and then thoroughly washed down the area to ensure full extinguishment.

Emergency units on scene included: Prospect Heights Engine 9, Tower 9, Engine 39, Battalion 9, and Engine 900. Wheeling Fire Department units also responded, including Engine 23, Tower 13, and Engine 14.
