Here's an excerpt from Gurneeil.us: The Village of Gurnee and Warren Waukegan Fire Protection District Celebrate the Grand Opening of Fire Station 3 GURNEE, IL – The Village of Gurnee and the Warren Waukegan Fire Protection District (WWFPD) officially celebrated the grand opening of Fire Station 3 on Wednesday, October 13th at 1:00 PM. Located at 5330 Manchester Drive, this new facility marks a significant milestone in enhancing emergency services for both the village and the surrounding area. The new station, spanning 14,452 square feet, is equipped to serve five firefighter/paramedics and will house two ambulances and one ladder truck. It joins the existing fire stations, providing better coverage and improved response times, especially during high-demand periods. This project was the result of years of planning and analysis by the Village of Gurnee. Its strategic location near major highways like I-94 and Route 120 ensures quick access to emergencies across the region. The station is expected to play a key role in supporting the growing community. The original bid for the project was around $6.3 million in 2019. Although it was included in the 20/21 capital budget, construction was delayed in April 2020 due to the pandemic. However, after re-evaluating costs and receiving updated bids in June 2020, the final price came in at $5.8 million. Despite economic challenges, the project moved forward smoothly, showing the commitment of local leaders to public safety.
