Shed fire in unincorporated Palatine, 3-18-19

Lake Zurich firefighters responded to a barn fire at 21100 Shirley Road in unincorporated Palatine on March 18, 2019. The call came in early this morning, and crews were quickly dispatched to the scene. According to initial reports, there were chickens and horses inside the small structure, but most, if not all, managed to escape the flames. A massive plume of smoke was visible for miles, drawing attention from nearby residents and passersby. Despite the intensity of the fire, Lake Zurich units arrived quickly and were able to get water on the fire within minutes. The blaze was fully extinguished in under 15 minutes, though the overhaul process took nearly an hour as crews worked to ensure no embers remained. Multiple fire departments were on the scene, including a Wauconda tower ladder, tankers from Long Grove, Barrington Countryside, and Countryside FPD, along with engines from Buffalo Grove, Wheeling, and Fox River Grove. Barrington Ambulance 1 provided medical support and rehabilitation for the crews. The incident highlighted the quick response and coordination between multiple agencies, ensuring the situation was handled efficiently. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the animals appeared to have escaped unharmed.
