I just received these updates and photos from Eric Haak regarding the fire incident that took place on Monday afternoon (March 18) in Chicago. The fire broke out in a three-story, 75 x 100-foot ordinary structure located at the intersection of Lake and Lockwood. As soon as the firefighters arrived, they quickly realized the severity of the situation and decided to adopt a defensive strategy roughly 30 minutes into the operation. Additional support was called in, with two extra truck companies dispatched to assist.
The fire department worked tirelessly for nearly two hours before finally bringing the flames under control. It was an intense and challenging situation, but thanks to their swift actions and coordination, the damage was kept to a minimum.
Attached are some exclusive photos taken by Eric Haak, offering a glimpse into the scene. The first image captures the brave firefighters battling the blaze in the three-story building. You can see the determination in their faces as they work together to extinguish the fire. Another shot shows Engine 96, one of the first responders on the scene, ready to take action. Tower Ladder 14 is also visible, standing tall and prepared to assist where needed. There's another angle showing Engine 96 once again, this time with a clearer view of its strategic positioning. A subsequent photo highlights the collaborative effort among the firefighters, emphasizing teamwork in action. Finally, the last image features Engine 95 stationed at a hydrant, ensuring a steady water supply to support the firefighting efforts.
These photos truly capture the dedication and professionalism of the Chicago Fire Department. Their swift response and coordinated efforts were crucial in managing such a significant fire in an urban setting like Chicago. It’s always inspiring to see how these heroes put themselves in harm’s way to protect others.
