Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone is set to make a major push in commercial development, with a 2 billion yuan investment planned for new commercial districts. The area is also aiming to boost its automotive industry, targeting an annual production of one million vehicles within five years, which could drive industrial output beyond 80 billion yuan.
In the first half of this year, the automobile and parts industries saw significant growth, with a total value of 24.721 billion yuan—up 45.42% compared to the same period last year. Key players like Shenlong Company and Dongfeng Honda Motor Co., Ltd. contributed heavily, with Shenlong producing over 118,000 vehicles and Dongfeng Honda selling more than 53,000 units. Their performance helped boost the overall parts and components sector, which recorded a 33.32% increase, with several companies seeing over 100% growth.
The development zone has become a hub for automotive manufacturing, with strong support from suppliers and logistics. According to Luo Changgang, director of the Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone Management Committee, the area has built a solid foundation for the automotive industry and is gradually shaping itself into a key center in China's auto sector.
To complement the industrial growth, the zone is also focusing on improving its service sector. A major commercial street project worth 2 billion yuan has been launched, featuring seven business areas including shopping, dining, hotels, exhibitions, and entertainment. Among the highlights is a 1 billion yuan investment to build a five-star hotel in the Donghe Center, alongside a four-star Kowloon International Hotel. These developments aim to enhance the quality of life for residents and workers in the area.
Currently, the zone has already established 10 commercial centers, such as Jinkai Shopping Center and Golden Harbor French Street, but there is still room for improvement in terms of cultural and leisure offerings. By investing in better infrastructure and services, the zone is striving to create a more balanced and attractive environment for both businesses and people.
