General U.S. plant plans to hire 500 more employees to produce new pickup engine

In December 2012, General Motors announced that its Tonawanda facility in the United States will employ 500 to 600 additional employees and will start production of the new 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and 2014 GMC Sierra pickup engines .

GM recently exhibited two pickup truck models, the Silverado and Sierra 2014, in Detroit. The company recently announced that its engine plant in Tona Wanda, New York, will begin production of V6 and V8 engines for the two models in early 2013. .

A spokesman for the Tona Wanda plant stated that the plant currently has approximately 1,100 hourly and full-time employees, and it expects that the plant will increase by 500 to 600 new employees by next year.

General Motors announced in 2010 that it will invest $400 million in the Tona Wanda plant. The addition of new employees is part of the investment plan. The plant will be the only factory that will produce the next-generation Chevrolet Corvette model V8.
